Are You Going About Social Networking The Wrong Way?

Are You Going About "Social Networking" The Wrong Way? How many times do you sign up for a social site like Facebook, or Myspace or any of the other 1500 or so social media sites and the first email you get from someone requesting your friendship is a blatant advertisement of their business opportunity?  This is not "social networking" people, this is spam. Using social sites as a marketing avenue requires a certain amount of "social etiquette."

If you meet a stranger on the street is the first words out of your mouth, "Hey, let me tell you about my business opportunity?" If it is it shouldn't be. Your first contact with someone on a social portal should be a meet and greet message not an advertisement.  Most people are not looking to do business with total strangers, especially over the Internet.

People want to do business with people.  Once you've made a connection and have been accepted as a friend on a "social site", then you can ask the person if they would be interested in hearing about your offer.

"Social networking" should not be treated like a classified ad site.  If all you are looking to do is spam your ad to as many people as you can, then perhaps you should be looking at other advertising avenues other than "social networking." The key word is SOCIAL, which means to socialize with folks not plaster your opportunity in their face in every post, every email. Learn more about the do's and don'ts of "social networking."
